Item Group
Introduction
An Item Group is a way to classify items based on types. It is a method of grouping products based on some common characteristics or features. Depending on the type of product, you can categorize an item under its respective field. If the product is used as a raw-material, assign it under the Raw Material category. In case, an item is used only in trading, you can categorize it under an Item Group called Trading.
Prerequisites
Before creating an item, it is advised that you create the following first:
Company
Store
Price List
If the product is service-oriented, assign it under the Item Group - service. If the product is used as a raw-material, assign it under the Raw Material category. In case, an item is used only in trading, you can categorize it under an Item Group called Trading.
To access the Item Group list, go to: Home > Stock > Items and Pricing > Item Group
Steps to create an Item Group
The steps to create an Item Group are explained below:
Navigate to Home > Stock > Masters and Report. Then under the Items Catalog section click on the Item Group shortcut to open the Item Group List View screen.
Click on the Add Item Group button. This will open the New Item Group popup screen. On this screen you can specify the Item Group, Parent Item Group, Item Tax etc.
New Item Group Accordion Explained
The various fields of the New Item Group accordion are explained below:
Item Group Name
Specify the Item Group Name. This is a text field and is mandatory.
Parent Item Group
Select a Parent Item Group from the list of Parent Item Groups displayed or choose to create a new Parent Item Group by clicking on the Create a new Parent Item Group option.
You can change the parent Item Group of an item by choosing another one under General Settings.
Is Group
Check this box if you only want to allow leaf nodes in transaction.
Defaults
This section allows you to define the Item Group defaults
Click on the Add Row button displayed below the Defaults section to add a new blank row.
Click on the Pencil symbol under the Gear icon to open the Editing Row screen.
On the Editing Row screen you need to specify the following:
Company
This field is prepopulated with the default Company specified in the application during the initial setup. This field is mandatory.
Default Warehouse
This field is prepopulated with the default Warehouse specified based on the Company field above. However, you have the option to change it. You can choose to Select a Default Warehouse from the list of Default Warehouses displayed or choose to create a new Default Warehouse by clicking on the Create a new Default Warehouse option. All the transactions pertaining to the items that belong to this Item Group will default to this warehouse.
Default Buying Cost Center
Specify the Default Buying Cost Center. All the items in this Item Group will be billed against this Default Buying Cost Center.
Default Supplier
Specify a Default Supplier, if any. On setting a Supplier here, this supplier will be chosen in purchase transactions by default for items in this group.
Default Selling Cost Center
Specify the Default Selling Cost Center. All the items in this Item Group will be billed against this Default Selling Cost Center.
Default Price List
Specify the Default Price List. A default price list will determine the Item Prices for this Item Group.
Default Discount Amount
Specify the Default Discount Amount. All the discount offered on items that belong to this Item Group will fall under this account.
Default Expense Account
Specify the Default Expense Account. All the expenses incurred on items that belong to this Item Group will fall under this account.
Default Provisional Account
Specify the Default Provisional Account. All the unfinalized transactions for items that belong to this Item Group will fall under this category. This can be seen especially in case of non-stock items, where goods might be received but not yet invoiced.
Default Income Account
Specify the Default Income Account. All the income earned on items that belong to this Item Group will fall under this account.
Item Tax
This section allows you to specify a default Item Tax template to all the items belonging to this group.
Click on the Add Row button displayed below the Taxes section to add a new blank row.
Click on the Pencil symbol under the Gear icon to open the Editing Row screen.
On the Editing Row screen you need to specify the following:
Item Tax Template
Tax Category
Specify a Tax Category.
Valid From
Minimum Net Rate
Maximum Net Rate
A default item tax template will be applied to all items belonging to this group. Similarly a Tax Category can also be selected, visit Quotation to know more about Tax Categories.

Steps to create an Item Group using the Item Group Tree
The steps to create an Item Group using the Item Group Tree are explained below:
Navigate to Home > Stock > Masters and Report. Then under the Items Catalog section click on the Item Group shortcut to open the Item Group List View screen.
Select a group node under which you wish to create the Item Group, the default root is 'All Item Groups'.
Select 'Add Child' or click on the New button. To make this child a category/group node, tick on Group Node.
Click on Create New.
Delete an Item Group
The application allows you to delete an Item Group. Select the Item Group you want to delete and select the Delete button. Then click Yes to confirm deletion.
Parent Item Group
You can change the parent Item Group of an item by choosing another one under General Settings.
Website Settings
This section of the New Item Group screen allows you to manage Website Settings.
Show in Website
Check this box if you want to make this Item Group visible on the website. Items belonging to this group will be shown on your website under the Item Group.
Route
Specify the Route.
Title
Specify the Website title.
Description
Specify the description for the Item Group. This will appear on the Item Group page.
Click the Add Row button displayed below the Website Specifications section to add a new blank row.
Click on the Pencil symbol under the Gear icon to open the Editing Row screen.
On the Editing Row screen you need to specify the following:
Website Specifications
This section of the New Item Group screen allows you to manage Label and its description for an item group.

Website Filters
This section of the New Item Group screen allows you to manage Website Filters.
Item Fields
Weightage
This is the weight for the Item Groups themselves, item groups with higher weights will be shown first.
Slideshow

Attributes
Specify the Attributes for the Item Group.
